Instrumental tuition
Lessons in primary, secondary, special and independent schools, organised through schools and provided by our team of experienced and enthusiastic Instructors.
We provide lessons through Instructors who work in schools to deliver tuition in a range of instruments for 30 weeks of the academic year, please see the
Music Service Delivery Calendar (pdf, 209kb) (opens in a new window)
for full details. All pupils are taught within the framework of the nationally approved A Common Approach 2002. Lessons are delivered before, during or at the end of the school day. We do this by entering into a service level agreement with Schools. The charges apply to all instrumental lessons in all disciplines and many schools charge parents directly for lessons.
If you would like your child to receive lessons from a member of the Dorset Music Service teaching team, please contact your child's school directly to gain further information. If your child's school does not offer tuition on the instrument you are interested in then please contact the Music Service and we will see whether there any other ways in which we can help you to obtain lessons for your child.
If you are a school requiring more information on buying-in the services of a Dorset Music Service teacher for your school, please contact the Dorset Music Service office on 01305 225770.

Progress Reports
In addition to communicating pupil's progress in the Practice Notebooks instructors will write a yearly pupil report at the end of the Spring Term.
Quality Assurance
All our Instructors have access to continued professional development and are supported in their role by their local Music Area Leader. Quality assurance is achieved through structured performance management, which includes observations and in-service training. All our Instructors have up-to-date safeguarding training and enhanced CRB clearance.
