Community transport
Community transport is complementary to public transport and aims to work with commercial operators by, for example, feeding into main routes, as well as providing door to door services for mobility impaired passengers.
Current community transport spending is focused on Dorset Country Cars (a network of voluntary car schemes) and dial-a-ride schemes in Weymouth and Portland, Dorchester, Axe Valley, West Dorset and Wimborne.
There is also an accessible transport scheme in North Dorset called the North Dorset Community Accessible Transport (NORDCAT).

Accessible transport
There are a number of wheelchair accessible schemes in Dorset that provide transport for people who find it difficult to use existing transport services.

Christchurch Dial-A-Bus
Christchurch Dial-A-Bus offers a specially adapted bus with trained staff to collect passengers from their front door, transporting them to various destinations across Christchurch.

Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester Dial-A-Bus
The Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester Dial-A-Bus services have been set up to provide wheelchair accessible transport for elderly and disabled people who find it difficult to use existing transport services. There are two schemes available which serve Dorchester, Portland and Weymouth.

Flexible bus services
Currently, there is one flexible bus service providing transport in the county.

Transport Action Groups (TAGs)
TAGs help to promote, co-ordinate and develop local passenger transport services (public and community) to meet the needs of rural communities and to identify the local travel needs of the disabled, socially excluded and differing social groups.

Voluntary car scheme
Dorset Country Cars is a voluntary car scheme supported by Dorset County Council. The scheme helps those in rural areas who are not able to use public transport or who have no other way of making essential trips.

Vehicle maintenance and MOT's
Dorset Works Organisation (DWO) offers a range of vehicle maintenance and MOT's both commercially to customers and also for Dorset County Council (DCC).

Bridport Dial-A-Bus Service 73a
The Bridport Dial-A-Bus service has been set up to provide wheelchair accessible transport for elderly and disabled people living in the Bride Valley area who find it difficult to use existing transport services.

Independent Travel Training
Volunteers are needed to help people with learning difficulties to travel independently.
