Children who are disabled

Wherever possible children who are disabled should grow up within a stable family. Children's Services will support and work with your family with this aim in mind.

Every child who is disabled will be able to access the available services as far as is practically possible.

There will be encouragement and support for self-help groups, as you may find the support of other parents very useful.

We will work together to plan the best way of delivering services to children who are disabled. Planning will involve children with disabilities and their parents or carers, whenever possible.

All services provided will be regularly reviewed. We would like to hear from you and your children, if possible, about how well the services are meeting your needs.

We know that families find flexible short break services very helpful and these will be given high priority.

If your child continues to need specialised services, the transfer from children's to adult services will be individually planned for them and we will involve you in the planning process.

For further information regarding our services, please contact your nearest local office.
