Scrutiny Committee (ceased November 2011)

On 29th December 2011 the Council resolved that Scrutiny Committee would take on the Audit function for the Council and a new Audit and Scrutiny Committee was agreed. The first meeting of this new Audit and Scrutiny Committee takes place on 13th December 2011.

The Scrutiny Committee has nine members and is responsible for:

  • challenging of the effectiveness and value for money of the council's decisions or actions
  • undertaking a programme of service reviews in accordance with the instructions and guidance of the council
  • reviewing existing council policy
  • making recommendations to council on decisions and services reviewed in accordance with the committee's objectives
  • considering and making recommendations to council on letters and reports from District Audit and Internal Audit concerning the performance of the council's functions
  • overseeing Best Value reviews and performance management including the implementation of the Comprehensive Performance Assessment Improvement Plan

The Scrutiny Committee reports annually to Council on its workings and makes recommendations for future work programmes and amended working methods, if appropriate.
