Transport for children with special educational needs

We currently co-ordinate approximately 286 routes for 888 children both in and out of the county.

Key services we provide are:

• Provision of appropriate hired transport for children who attend special schools and bases both in and out of county.
• Provision of passenger assistants who travel on the vehicles with the children.
• Routing of vehicles to ensure the best use of transport.
• Provision of specialist equipment to meet the children's needs.
• Liaison with schools, parents and education directorate in respect of children's needs.
• Payment of hired contract accounts.
• Involvement in the tendering process for hired transport.
• Negotiation of prices with contractors.
• Assist commissioning and contracts team with the monitoring of the service provided by hired contractors.
• Ensuring adequate risk assessment and monitoring of health and safety issues.
