Community planning

Community planning is about giving local people the opportunity to create a shared vision for their area and identify priorities for action which are agreed by a wide range of people, organisations and groups.

Community planning:

  • Is a powerful tool in helping local communities voice their aspirations
  • Provides direction for joining up the work of local organisations
  • Provides the potential to secure greater efficiency and effectiveness in the use of public/private/voluntary resources
  • Provides an opportunity to share and learn from everyone's experiences

In Dorset, community planning happens through Local Community Planning Partnerships.

Local Community Planning

Local community planning partnerships and community plans for districts, towns and parishes concentrate on the issues and actions important to their local area. Any larger issues of county-wide importance are fed up to the Dorset Strategic Partnership.

They identify local views, issues and needs and strengthen the voice of communities to help influence decision makers and those who provide services. They can also help communities with advice on particular issues, can draw up a plan of action for the area and support local projects.
