Phase IV
Progress update July 2010.
The preliminary design of coast protection and slope stabilisation work has been completed for Church Cliff and East Cliff to the east of the town, where approximately 144 properties, roads, utility mains and amenity land are at risk from coastal erosion and associated landslides.
Conditional planning consent (WDDC planning reference 1/D/10/00077) was granted in April 2010.
The Project Appraisal Report, which is the application for Defra approval and grant aid, was submitted to the Environment Agency during May 2010. It is being considered by their National Review Group.
If the necessary funding has been approved by then, district council expects to appoint consultants to start work on the detailed design and preparation of the tender documents during Autumn 2010.
Depending on when the funding arrangements are confirmed, allowing time for design, tendering and contractor mobilisation, the earliest start date for the main contract is spring 2012.
The main contract is expected to take two years to complete.
Slope monitoring and environmental work will continue thought the lead-in period and main contract and for at least five years afterwards.
