Annual Monitoring Report 2010-2011

Local planning authorities must make an Annual Monitoring Report (AMR) to the Secretary of State giving information on the preparation of planning policy documents. They also have to report on how far policies set out in the local development documents are being achieved.

This is the seventh AMR produced by West Dorset District Council. It covers the 12 months from 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011. This AMR is based on the policies of the West Dorset District Local Plan (2006) and shows the district council's progress in producing its New Local Plan, as well as key statistics for West Dorset and how well the policies are performing.

Five year housing land supply

The AMR includes reference to the five year assessment of deliverable housing sites. This document is a requirement under Planning Policy Statement 3 (Housing) and should show that the local planning authority has a supply of deliverable sites to provide housing over the next five years.

The five year supply (December 2011) is based on outstanding consents, those under construction and those with permission that have not been started as at 1 April 2011, as well as allocations that have been predicted to come forward in the next five years and sites considered in the council's Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment.

The target for the five year supply from 2011-2016 is derived from the Adopted Local Plan, based on figures originally included in the submission draft Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) (2006). This shows that the district has a supply equal to 5.19 years.
