Community Choir
Carols with the Mayor 2010-12-16 (pdf, 4Mb) (opens in a new window)
, a community-based singing initiative, was launched in December 2009 in Greystones Hall, Highcliffe. Following its success and the enthusiasm of the Mayor of Christchurch, the Christchurch Community Partnership decided that it should become an annual event. In December 2010 the event was held in the welcoming ambience of Christchurch Priory.
Christchurch Community Partnership hoped to attract as many members of the local community as possible to participate, at their own level of musicality. Those who had never had a previous opportunity to sing with a choir or large group, including complete beginners, were particularly welcome. Well-known carols were chosen and all those attending did so as singers. A retiring collection showed appreciation to Christchurch Priory.
The event proved so popular that the date for 2011 has already been set as December 15.
Heritage
Christchurch is renowned for its heritage, which attracts many tourists and visitors. The Partnership is working with local people to encourage more residents to visit nearby attractions. As a result we are:
- Working with schools and community groups to increase understanding of the role Christchurch's heritage plays in its history and economy
The Culture and Learning Action Group meets quarterly to work towards their action plan.
