- 1) The need for new accommodation
As a result of the fire at the school in June 2000, the school lost eight laboratories, a maths classroom and the school hall, plus other non-teaching accommodation.

Before beginning this project, a complete review of the school's needs was carried out resulting in a long term Masterplan Brief for the whole school site. The phases of development are consistent with this.
