Within Dorset ball clay is designated as a nationally important mineral - as a scarce, high quality resource that needs to be safeguarded.
To protect this mineral resource, there is a

, within which consultations are required on any proposals for built development. That area is shown in an explanatory map in the adopted Dorset minerals and waste local plan.
