Utilising information and communications technology (ICT)
ICT is fundamental to business today. Properly deployed it can help business increase market share, expand into new markets, improve profit margins, and increase revenue. It is shown to also help increase staff retention and satisfaction, and greatly increase customer satisfaction.
There is compelling evidence to show that businesses using ICT perform better and have more opportunities for growth. The Economist states that Broadband, currently the fastest growing area of ICT, will bring about the biggest behavioural shift since electricity. However there are many businesses in the community that do not fully appreciate the benefits ICT can bring.
When running a business, it is worth bearing in mind the following aspects of ICT:
- Installing computer networks and systems
- Purchasing software for example: specialist accounting software
- Running a website (from basic brochure pages through to ecommerce sites)
- Keeping secure
- Training your staff
- IT policies (especially internet and email policies)
These various aspects of ICT can require significant investment and it is important that you work closely with your suppliers to ensure that your business gets the most appropriate system for its specific needs.
