Changes in the landfill regulations

The Environment Agency have published three factsheets to help small businesses and others in the waste industry to understand the changes in the landfill regulations which came into force last year.

The pre-treatment requirements of the Landfill Regulations, which came into force on October 30 2007, state that no waste is to be disposed of to landfill unless it can be demonstrated to have undergone a treatment process.

In most cases, this means a reduction in weight by removing a proportion of the waste for recycling, whether at source through a separate recycling collection or at a sorting facility.

More information is available by downloading the factsheets on the right hand side.
