Inspector's report
The independent planning inspector's report into the West Dorset District Revised Deposit Local Plan was received on 24 January 2006, following an inquiry which took place between 1 February 2005 and 14 October 2005.
During the inquiry, the planning inspector considered all unresolved objections to the West Dorset District Revised Deposit Plan. The Inspector's report set out recommendations to the district council on all its proposed local plan policies and proposals to which people had objected. The report also set out recommendations on objectors' alternative policies and proposals.
The report is organised on a chapter-by-chapter basis to reflect the order of the local plan. As well as being set out in plan order, chapters are arranged by policy and paragraph number and include a note of objector name and number for each part of the plan that is addressed. Objectors' details for the more contentious issues in the plan, which resulted in a large number of objections, are set out in a separate appendix, in order to make the written text of the Inspector's Report more concise.
The inspector's report was not binding, and there was no obligation on the district council to accept the recommendations. However, where the council chose not to accept a recommendation there needed to be clear and sound planning justification not to do so. The recommendations were considered, and proposed modifications to the Local Plan resulting from the Inspector's recommendations were published for a six week period of consultation from 7 April 2006 - 19 May 2006. On 14 July 2006 West Dorset District Council formally adopted the plan.
