  • Q: What is a citizenship ceremony?

    A: A citizenship ceremony is for applicants who have been accepted for naturalisation or registration as British citizens. Ceremonies are group ceremonies where a number of applicants will all attend together. Alternatively you may choose to hold a personal ceremony where you are the only applicant.

  • Q: What happens at a citizenship ceremony?

    A: The ceremony fulfils legal requirements for applicants and provides a celebration to mark this significant date in a new citizen's life.

  • Q: Where can citizenship ceremonies be held?

    A: You are free to choose where you wish to attend a ceremony.

  • Q: How much does it cost?

    A: The cost of the ceremony forms part of your application fee so there is no extra charge unless you choose to hold a personal ceremony.

  • Q: How long does the ceremony last?

    A: Prior to the ceremony you are invited to a reception which enables us to check your personal details. It also provides an opportunity for you to meet your celebrant and dignitary. The reception normally lasts about 30 minutes.

  • Q: Do I have to attend a citizenship ceremony?

    A: Yes, unless you are under the age of 18. If you have been accepted for naturalisation or registration as a British citizen you must attend a ceremony to obtain your British citizenship certificate.

  • Q: How many guests can I bring?

    A: You are invited to bring up to 5 guests unless you choose to hold a personal ceremony. Access to ceremonies is by invitation only and applicants will be issued with an appropriate number of entrance tickets.

  • Q: What should I do if I want to change the location of my ceremony?

    A: Contact the local authority which is mentioned in your Home Office letter and inform them of your preferred choice of venue. The local authority will then seek approval for the transfer and if approved will transfer the documentation to the relevant local authority.

  • Q: Who do I contact to arrange a citizenship ceremony?

    A: The Home Office will inform us of successful applicants and we will send an invitation to those applicants. The invitation is for a group ceremony or provides an opportunity for you to opt for a personal ceremony.
