Background
Dorset POPP was one of 29 national pilot programmes funded by the Department of Health (DoH) in 2006 to improve the quality of life for older people by making sure that opportunities are put in place locally to promote healthy lifestyles, independence and preventative services and activities.
Research has shown that:
Central to a good life in old age is the value attached by older people to being part of a community where people care about and look out for each other
Older people are citizens with important roles in supporting each other within communities and are themselves the biggest provider of support to older people
