Ham Lane, Hampreston - Hampreston Cross to Canford Bottom roundabout footway
Scheme description and background.
To construct a section of shared used footway/ cycleway from Hampreston Cross to Canford Bottom.
Minor works to create a central refuge (island) linking the sections of Fox Lane, either side of Ham Lane (B3073). Construction commenced on 2 February 2012, in conjunction with the Highways Agency road closure at Canford Bottom. Works should take approx. 5 weeks to complete.
Scheme objectives
- Improve safety
- Reduce dependency on the car
- Provide the missing link in the Castlemain Trailway
Cost and funding
The total estimated cost of the above scheme is £115,000, of which £10,000 has been contributed by the Highways Agency.
Future programme
To construct a shared used footway/ cycleway from Hampreston Cross to Canford Bottom roundabout to provide a safe area for pedestrians, particularly those walking to and from Hampreston School. Verge widths are enough for most of its length to provide a footway/cycleway. However, there is a short section of narrow verge which requires land currently in private ownership.
