Senior Forums
Senior forums are local independent action groups for people over the age of 50. They aim to influence the planning, development and delivery of local services by getting their member's voices heard at key planning groups across Dorset. They also provide a valued social and communication network for many isolated older people.
Two new senior forums have been launched in Beaminster and Wareham, bringing the total number of groups in Dorset to eleven. With the help of POPP funding, it is hoped that more senior forums will be developed this year in North and East Dorset. A new group is developing for the Swanage area and exploration meetings are planned this autumn to discuss setting up forums for Verwood, Shaftesbury and Sturminster Newton.
It is hoped that everyone over 50 in Dorset will have the opportunity to join a forum in their locality by September 2008.
