Young people doing good
Young People Doing Good (YPDG) was founded by a group of seven young people (aged 17-18) from STEPS Club For Young People, a Youth Centre in Weymouth. Their aims are to contribute to their community and change the stereotypes and perception of young people today.
The original group who founded YPDG were undertaking the Gold level of the national Youth Achievement Awards. To complete the award, they undertook a series of challenges, gaining skills and confidence and helping to create a stronger relationship with the community.
The aim of Young People Doing Good is to engage young people in projects that are of benefit to their community - such as helping the elderly, working on environmental and conservation projects and many more.
Each of our Award groups continues YPDG for about a year before handing over to our next group. Our groups undertake projects in Weymouth & Portland. We hope to encourage and help other YPDG groups to form across Dorset and even across the UK.
Do you want to get involved? Here you will find more details about YPDG, what the STEPS groups have done and how you can get involved or set up a YPDG group.
"Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has" (Margaret Mead)
"I dunno: all these young people on the streets, up to some good!" (Tom Lane)

What is Young People Doing Good?
Young People Doing Good aims to engage young people in projects of benefit to their community and to promote a more positive view of young people.
-
What prompted us to start?
After much speculation in the news and media about youth 'yob' culture, we decided to make a positive difference and try to change the perception of young people in society.
-
How we started, and how you could start
After ideas were formed about YPDG and how it could develop, the YPDG group held a meeting for a range of people from various organisations and services throughout Dorset; for example, Youth Service, schools, police, borough council, health authority, Dorset Wildlife Trust, etc.

Projects Young People Doing Good has done so far
Since October 2007 we have completed a series of small projects to help people within the community; all the events have been very successful.
-
Logos and Publicity
Our young people designed two YPDG logos and have had lots of positive media coverage of their projects. They were also praised by the government.
