Granby Way cycleway and footway
The Granby Way cycleway is the first London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games 'ride or stride' route for Weymouth to be completed.
The cycleway and footway provides an important connection between the Chickerell link road cycleway and the Radipole Lake cycleway, and goes towards the completion of a cycle network around Weymouth and Portland.
Work started on Monday 2 February 2009 and lasted 13 weeks.
Dorset Works Organisation constructed the cycleway, between Wessex Roundabout and Chafeys Roundabout. Improvements were also carried out on Chafeys Roundabout to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
The realignment of kerbs and reduction of approach lanes to the roundabout helps to slow traffic, and also narrows the width of the road for cyclists and pedestrians to cross.
During the construction work, new street lighting was installed on Granby Way, grounds maintenance was carried out on Chafeys Roundabout and resurfacing work took place on Granby Way and Weymouth Way.
