Business - security advice and support

Crimes against business are often unplanned and they often occur when somebody spots an opportunity. The first action is to do a thorough risk assessment of your business, which should produce a checklist of all the potential risks.

The next step will be to work through the list to minimise the risks. This could range from simple measures such as ensuring all windows and doors are secured through to installing video surveillance equipment.

Business crime reduction should consider the following areas:

  • Discourage theft

  • Keep staff safe

  • Protect your premises

  • Safeguard your stock and cash

  • Prevent fraud

  • Tackle anti-social behaviour

Whilst your company is addressing its exposure to business crime, it is important to realise that it is not alone.  The Crime and Disorder Act requires councils, the police, primary care trusts, the fire service and the community to work together at borough/district level to develop and implement plans to reduce crime.
