Christchurch Harbour and Quays
Christchurch Harbour extends from Mudeford Spit (Sandbank) in the east to the confluence of two rivers, the Avon and the Stour in the west.

There are two harbours in West Dorset - Bridport (West Bay) and Lyme Regis. Both are owned and operated by West Dorset District Council.

Coastline - beach patrols
The Dorset coast is a very beautiful, but potentially dangerous place. A number of councils help fund beach patrols to keep beach users safe and to reassure visitors who spend millions of pounds in the area, supporting local jobs.

Licence - pleasure boats
Licences will not be issued to people under 18 years of age. The application must be accompanied by a certificate of compliance with the British Waterways Standards (issued by an approved Marine Surveyor).

Licence - self-drive boats
Anyone wishing to use a self drive motor boat or other craft in British rivers and canals is required to register. Alternatively they must obtain a British waterways licence, or pay a toll.
