Licences will not be issued to people under 18 years of age. The application must be accompanied by a certificate of compliance with the British Waterways Standards (issued by an approved Marine Surveyor).

The pleasure boat must comply with any authority or statutory conditions.

This type of licence is required for rowing boats, sailing boats and for ferries carrying less than 12 passengers.

Lyme Regis and West Bay harbours have a maximum number of 14 Ply for Hire Licences each.  These are issued to certificated boats, taken by a mixture of tripping boats, dive charter boats and a self drive boat business. They operate from Easter to the end of September.
