Wesley Wood

Wesley Wood, Wimborne, was saved from the clutches of development as the 'Last Wood of Wimborne' several years ago.

The woodland is of high amenity and landscape value, and apparently once formed part of an ornamental garden or arboretum. The woodland contains many unusual specimens of tree, including Giant Redwoods. The late winter flush of snowdrops is quickly followed by wild daffodils and bluebells in the spring.

Management plan:

Management works are currently concentrating on removing the invasive sycamore trees and dense stands of laurel. Other areas of the wood have been thinned to allow more light to reach the woodland floor. This will encourage the colourful ground flora to flourish even more. Conservation workdays are well supported by many enthusiastic local residents. 2007 saw the creation of new surfaced paths around the site and improved measures to prevent illegal use of the site by BMX cycles.
