Rights of Way Liaison Officers

Each parish council in Dorset can benefit from having an active Parish Rights of Way Liaison Officer - volunteers who are nominated/appointed by parish councils. The parish council representative should have an interest in the countryside and have good local knowledge.

Parish Rights of Way Liaison Officers are responsible for:

  • Holding and updating the Parish Definitive Map of Rights of Way and keeping relevant rights of way information and correspondence
  • Liaising closely with the Countryside Access Team and Countryside Rangers on path signing and way marking, definitive map modification orders and the resolution of any problems
  • Encouraging the involvement of the local community and volunteers
  • Publicising and promoting the rights of way network through local press such as the parish magazine and village events.

If you are interested in becoming a Parish Rights of Way Liaison Officer please contact the parish council.
