Education at Avon Heath Country Park

At Avon Heath Country Park we specialise in running a full educational programme, designed around the National Curriculum, but adaptable for other groups on request. Activities include woodland maths, mini-beast safaris, pond dipping, people and heaths, mystery mud, tree-id and pongy plants!

Our educational activities leaflet is available at the visitor centre, listing all the activities and approximate timings for each, allowing you to mix and match activities to cover a whole morning, afternoon or day. Prices for Ranger-led activities

£2 per child for up to 90 minutes of Ranger-led discovery sessions. Please allow 20 minutes change over time between sessions. Minimum charge £2 per child.  Rangers will work with the teachers and supervisors to lead activities. Teachers and supervisors join in for free.


Size of group

Between 10 and 80 children.

Please ask children to bring (as appropriate to your activity):

  • Waterproofs, old clothes, sensible footwear, sun-hats, sun-cream and insect repellent for outdoor activities
  • Long trousers are recommended for activities in long grass or by trees
  • Paper, pencils and clipboards, calculators
  • Packed lunch and plenty to drink

First aid

The school is responsible for the welfare of the children. All rangers have first aid training; they are unable to give medicines, or provide anything except ice or water for stings. Please bring at least one mobile phone per small group.


Supervision ratios

The school is responsible for bringing the appropriate number of teachers and supervisors for the type of activity and number of children.


Special needs and themes

Many activities can be adapted. The rangers will work with you to try and suit your needs.


Safety and risk assessments

The school is responsible for the safety and behaviour of the children at all times. The rangers will do their own risk assessments for each activity, but overall responsibility for risk assessment for the visit remains with the teacher in charge.


Rain

Some activities are seasonal or weather dependent – please confirm when booking. In extreme weather conditions the ranger will alter or cancel outdoor activities.
