Dorset Reduction and Recycling Group

Dorset reduction and recycling group

The Dorset Reduction and Recycling Group (DRRG) brings together all the local authorities in Dorset, working together to promote waste reduction and recycling across the county.

Some examples of DRRG achievements over the past seven years:

  • Distribution of 55,000 home compost bins to residents throughout Dorset. This has been in partnership with a government-funded organisation called Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and, from April 2010, in partnership with Straights

  • At least 30,000 children visited at schools, youth groups etc and given the opportunity to find out about the 3 Rs - Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

  • 40,000 waste reduction booklets produced and distributed free to Dorset residents on request. These include practical items to help cut junk mail plus a booklet giving tips and advice about all aspects of waste reduction

  • A free local reuse directory produced for residents in all districts of Dorset, available as a download and also supplied as a hard copy

  • 25,000 Love Food Hate Waste cookbooks distributed

  • A real nappy incentive scheme set up with 650 applications since April 2008. Talks and static stands arranged throughout the county to promote real nappies
