Animal carcasses
Including pets, farm animals and those washed up on the beach.
Animals on public land
If you find an animal which has been run over or dumped on public land, including highways, please report it to us.
Larger animals (e.g. a cow) or large quantities of animals will require a special collection to be arranged through a contractor. If these larger animals are on the highway, they should be reported to Dorset Direct. If the animals are on district/borough council land it is their responsibility to arrange collection.
Animals washed up on beaches, e.g. whales and seals
Please contact us for advice or removal.
NB: On private land the landowner has responsibility for disposal, though this may be arranged by the Waste Collection Authority.
Any whale, porpoise, dolphin carcass should be reported to the 'Receiver of Wrecks' through the local coastguard.
Pets
For disposal of domestic pets, you should contact your vet.
Where an unidentified domestic animal carcass (e.g. stray cat) is found or for missing pets, please contact us (some district/borough councils have details of local missing pet services).
Blue Haze landfill site, Verwood, is licensed to accept animal carcasses.
