Unpaid fines - West Dorset

If your ECN hasn't been paid within 28 days of issue, the following steps will be taken:

Step 1 - Correspondence with the driver or vehicle keeper to secure payment

If the fine remains unpaid, we will make enquiries to the DVLA to find out the registered keeper of the vehicle. The council will write to the registered keeper after the 28 days have lapsed requesting the payment of the fine in full.

If you are the driver but not the registered keeper you should inform the registered keeper about the fine. On receipt of the letter from the council you or the registered keeper can either pay the fine or make a formal representation to the council.

Step 2 - Court action with the driver or vehicle keeper to secure payment

If any challenge you may have made to the council has been unsuccessful and if the fine has not been paid within the prescribed timescale the council will appoint a solicitor to pursue payment of the debt in the County Court. Should you make an appeal to the County Court and are unsuccessful, you will be required to pay significant court costs in addition to your fine.
