The work of the Minerals and Development Control Group

The Minerals and Development Control Group provides the county council with advice and service in exercising DCC's statutory functions as the minerals planning authority and the waste planning authority for Dorset. It also provides a service in handling applications for the county council's own developments - including county roads, schools, social services centres, libraries.

The work of the group includes responsibilities for major areas of work:

  • Minerals and waste planning policy work - including review of the adopted Dorset Minerals and Waste Local Plan, and work on regional and local strategies for waste management planning
  • County council development control and responses to consultations on local plans - including advice in relation to the county council's role as the mineral planning authority and waste planning authority, and presenting evidence at appeals, as well as advice on the county council's own developments, and handling responses to consultations on local plans
  • The review of old minerals permissions - including negotiating major improvements to sites operating under older minerals permissions, through the review under the Environment Act 1995
  • Site monitoring, enforcement and local liaison - including monitoring active minerals and waste sites, related work to secure high standards to protect the environment, and the production of an annual Monitoring Report
