Funding advice for groups in West Dorset
West Dorset District Council employs a funding adviser to help the voluntary sector obtain funding for projects in the district.
The service provides:
- An assessment of a group's state of readiness for funding e.g. constitution, management, business planning charitable status and justification of need for the project.
- A full search of suitable sources of funding, using Grantfinder, Internet and funding advisers' knowledge including local trusts, national foundations and corporate giving companies.
- Recommendation of the most appropriate sources of funding for the project, including advise on how to develop a funding plan and funding package with a mix of funders.
- Advice on how to complete applications forms and write applications letters to trusts and foundations.
- Reading and checking draft applications forms and letters and making recommendations for improvements.
There are several funding advice services available from Dorset Community Action and Dorset County Council. Groups are asked to work with only one funding adviser because the service is in demand and needs to operate efficiently. Working with one funding adviser is easier for the group as funding confusing and needs direction.
