West Dorset District Council

How West Dorset District Council is structured to deliver services and local people's priorities.

To make sure we make a difference in the priority areas outlined in the plan and deliver services that local people need West Dorset District Council is organised into four directorates. Each is run by a director who is responsible to the Chief Executive.

The directorates are:

Communities

Runs services including:

  • Leisure and cultural facilities
  • Harbour management
  • Waste collection and recycling
  • Street cleaning 
  • Tourist information centres
  • Environmental health
  • Licensing
  • Housing services

Environment

Runs services including:

  • Planning
  • Building control
  • Car parks   
  • Harbour and coastal infrastructure 
  • Economic regeneration

Resources

Runs services including:

  • Collecting council tax and business rates
  • Issuing housing benefits
  • Public toilets
  • Maintaining council property
  • Elections
  • Internal services including accountancy, legal and democratic support

Corporate Services 

Runs services including:

  • HR
  • Customer services
  • Communications and consultation
  • IT
  • Business improvement
