LDF Evidence Base (Research)

Christchurch and East Dorset councils are undertaking a number of studies in order to better understand the potential impacts of our Local Development Frameworks (LDF).

These studies provide credible and robust evidence with which to inform documents and policies produced for the Local Development Frameworks.

The studies completed, planned or in progress are detailed below. Click on the links for more information.

  • East Dorset Housing Options Masterplan Reports

Masterplan reports have been produced as part of the evidence to support the now complete Core Strategy Options for Consideration consultation and specifically the housing options proposed in Corfe Mullen, Ferndown and West Parley, Wimborne Minster and Verwood. They help to explain why certain areas have and have not been put forward as options for new neighbourhoods within the consultation.

  • Open Space, Sport and Recreation Assessment - Christchurch and East Dorset

Christchurch and East Dorset councils commissioned an open space, sport and recreation assessment. It determines the current standard and extent of provision of open space, sport and recreation facilities within the two authority areas. The results will help inform future planning policy.

  • Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment - Christchurch

A Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is a technical study which assesses the theoretical potential of sites in the borough to accommodate future housing development. All local planning authorities are required to conduct a SHLAA under national policy.

  • Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment - East Dorset

A Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is a technical study of the theoretical potential of sites in the district for future housing development.

  • Strategic Housing Market Assessment in Dorset

  • Christchurch and East Dorset Employment Land Review

The employment land review process determines the necessary quantity, location and type of employment land and premises necessary to meet the requirements of business over the plan period (2006 - 2026).

  • East Dorset Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (Level 1)

East Dorset District Council commissioned a Level 1 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) in partnership with other adjoining authorities. The study meets the requirements of Planning Policy Statement 25 (PPS25).

  • sfra image: Link to Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (Level 2) - ChristchurchStrategic Flood Risk Assessment (Level 2) - Christchurch

Every local planning authority in England is required to conduct a Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) to assess flood risk now and in the future, taking into account the effects of climate change. The Government requires that local planning policies use the results of the SFRA to direct development away from areas at greatest risk of flooding. The SFRA adopts the precautionary approach and illustrates a theoretical 'worst case scenario' to plan for.
