Christchurch Harbour and Quays
Christchurch Harbour extends from Mudeford Spit (Sandbank) in the east to the confluence of two rivers, the Avon and the Stour in the west.
It is an important area for nature conservation and is a designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). It is also a popular venue for a range of recreational activities including sailing, angling, bird watching and water sports. Christchurch and Mudeford Quays are also important recreational sites enjoyed by both residents and visitors.

Christchurch - seawater samples
Throughout the summer the Environmental Health Department at Christchurch Borough Council carries out regular sampling of river and sea water to check for any contamination.

Christchurch Harbour was formed about 7,000 years ago when the level of the sea rose at the end of the last ice age.

Mudeford Quay is situated at the entrance to Christchurch Harbour and provides spectacular views out to sea and back to Christchurch town.

Christchurch quay is an attractive green space located in the town centre. It is characterised by its riverside setting and views of the 11th century Priory.
