Standards Sub-Committees

The Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 gave powers for the Government to prescribe that allegations of any breach of the Members Code of Conduct will be dealt with locally by Standards Committees. The 2007 Act transferred the responsibility for initial assessment of an allegation that the Members Code of Conduct has been breached from the Standards Board for England to the Standards Committee.

If you want to complain about the conduct of a Member, please complete the complaints form (pdf, 21kb) (opens in a new window) .  The Standards Committee will then consider any complaint through sub-committees who will conduct an initial assessment of any alleged breach along with any subsequent appeal and hearing.  These sub-committees are:

The Standards (Local Assessment) Sub-Committee

This Sub-Committee shall assess written allegations that a member or co-opted member (or former member or co-opted member) of the council, including any parish or town council in the district, has failed, or may have failed, to comply with the council's code of conduct for members in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 2000.

The Standards (Appeals) Sub-Committee

This sub-committee shall consider appeals from decisions by the Standards (Local Assessment) Sub-Committee to take no action.

The Standards (Hearings) Sub-Committee

This sub-committee shall hold hearings to consider all reports into alleged breaches of the code of conduct for members' referred to the council under the Local Government Act 2000 or subsequent regulations, or following local investigation by the monitoring officer or a person appointed by him or her.
