Joint planning policy work
The county council is involved in the development of many aspects of planning policy.
The Spatial Planning unit of Dorset County Council works jointly with the districts and boroughs on policy issues such as the development of policies on sites for gypsies and travellers and for the heathlands of South East Dorset.
The Spatial Planning unit also works jointly with other authorities in Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth to provide evidence to back up policies in the Local Development Frameworks for instance the statistics on development and the Dorset Countywide Monitoring Report. The Strategic Housing Market Assessments and Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments for the Bournemouth/Poole and Dorchester/Weymouth housing market areas also fall into this category.
