Other features investigated

Five very large pits, three of which were over 12 metres in diameter with two measuring 5 - 8 metres, were investigated on the site.

The large pits are believed to be chalk quarry pits. They are late prehistoric or more probably Roman in date and are associated with a number of linear ditch features which cross the site and seem to be of a similar date.

Moving closer to the present day, a number of trackways, field boundaries and 'lynchets' (formed by ploughing on a slope, or terracing to allow the steep areas to be cultivated) have been recorded.
