Marsh Route

The Marsh Route will link Budmouth Technology College to the Rodwell Trail on Newstead Road.

It will create an important link that will help people to commute into town by bicycle and benefit leisure and educational activities by connecting various residential areas to Budmouth College, Weymouth swimming pool, the Marsh athletics track, Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre, a children's play area and sports pitches.

In February 2012 Dorset County Council will be bidding for funding from the Department for Transport Local Sustainable Transport Fund for the Weymouth to Dorchester corridor. If successful, this will provide funding from summer 2012 to build the second phase of the scheme - the section of cycleway between Radipole Lane and Budmouth Technology College.

If successful, the funding would be released in the 2012-13 financial year.

The stretch of cycleway from Radipole Lane to the Newstead Road end of the Marsh playing fields was built in 2010 and funded by Dorset County Council.

The work was separated into two phases so that the stretch of cycleway on Chickerell Road near the junction with Lanehouse Rocks Road was not constructed while Lanehouse was used as part of the Weymouth Transport Package diversion route.
