Christchurch Community Partnership Annual Conference 2009
The 2009 annual conference was held on Wednesday 20 May 2009 at the Captain's Club. This year the conference focussed on Valuing Volunteers and included a volunteer commendation ceremony.
Christchurch Volunteers Commendations
The idea of the Christchurch Volunteer Commendations emerged from the Valuing Volunteer project which highlighted the importance of recognising our volunteers. This is the first year in which Volunteers have been commended and it coincided with the receipt of the Investing Volunteers Award from Volunteer England. We felt it fitting for these awards to be made by the Mayor of Christchurch at the start of his second Mayoral year.
The Board of Trustees had a difficult job in coming up with just one award because of the quality of the applications received this year. So, in addition to the Christchurch 2007/09 Volunteer Commendation, which will be given to the winner, highly commended awards will be given to the other people nominated.
So first for those highly commended awards:
Carole Gannicott highly commended Award for her contribution as a volunteer with young people
Russ Gannicott highly commended for his contribution as a volunteer with young musicians
Tina Bruce highly commended for her contribution as a volunteer supporting young parents in the Somerford area
Richard Pidgley highly commended for his contribution as a volunteer supporting young parents in Somerford
The Haven Club, Brendon Care Club, highly commended for their contribution to volunteering with older people across Christchurch
Derek Blake highly commended for his contribution as a volunteer to the Over 50's Forum
David Hopkins highly commended for his contribution as a volunteer to Christchurch Stompin' on the Quomps Festival
Stella Jackson-Smith highly commended for her contribution as a volunteer in promoting the Friends of Christchurch Railway Station
Winner:
Karen Chorley from the Lighthouse in Christchurch for her outstanding contribution to young people and volunteering in Christchurch.
We then turned our focus to the Partnership and asked Dr Bob Gilbertson to join us to receive the Investing in Volunteers Award on behalf of the Christchurch Community Partnership (CCP) and the entire CCP volunteer corps. This award is for the period 2008 - 2011 and therefore requires the partnership to continue to value its volunteers and keep at the fore front of volunteering to ensure we retain this UK quality standard in future years.
