Drug Intervention Programme (DIP)

If you are a person 18 years and over, committing crimes related to your drug use, you have a greater chance of building an alternative lifestyle if you have appropriate support at the earliest opportunity.

Turning Point provides the DIP service for Dorset which offers advice, information, support and access to treatment for your drug use and ensures a multi-agency working approach to ensure people do not slip through the net anywhere in the Criminal Justice System.

You can tap into DIP Services right from the point of arrest, throughout a Drug Rehabilitation Requirement (DRR) order and resettlement after a prison sentence.

Throughout a sentence, CARATS (Counselling, Assessment, Referral, Advise and Throughcare Services) teams and drug treatment are usually accessible within prisons.

It is not a soft option or just a fast track to treatment, but it can offer structured support and treatment and continue to support you until you feel ready to take the next step.

Referral routes

  • Self referral through contact with a DIP Worker at the point of arrest (in police cells)
  • Referral from within prison prior to or after release
