Diversity

Diversity is about recognising and valuing difference as well as accounting for inequalities and disadvantages. To help understand the issues we need to use Equality and Diversity statistics in a more cohesive and consistent way.

There are six commonly recognised 'strands' to diversity:

  • Age

  • Ethnicity

  • Disability

  • Gender

  • Religion

  • Sexual orientation

The best source of general statistics on these six strands is a summary Research Matters (pdf, 528kb) (opens in a new window) bulletin.

Also available is a bulletin looking at new population estimates by ethnic group (pdf, 364kb) (opens in a new window) and an update on number of migrant workers (pdf, 102kb) (opens in a new window)  coming to Dorset to live and work.
