EU Services Directive

EU flag

The EU Services Directive aims to break down barriers to cross border trade in services between countries in the EU.

The Primary Liaison Point (PLP) is a nominated officer in each UK authority who will be the conduit for future communications, for example information and guidance, between the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) and their authority.  All further communications from BIS to local authorities will be made through the PLP, who will in turn disseminate the information within their council.  This approach has been selected for the following reasons:

  • It prevents the duplication of information channels between BIS and councils and ensures that the information is recorded in one source

  • It ensures that at least one local officer has got a sufficient background about the directive

  • It lets each local authority manage the information in the way they find most useful

For further guidance refer to  EU Services Directive (opens in a new window) information on the Department for Business Innovation and Skills website.
