1) The project and background
Project and background details for the project at Barton Hill House.
Barton Hill House provides boarding accommodation for up to 80 students of Shaftesbury School and Sports College. The existing accommodation is generally of two storeys built in three phases, consisting of a Victorian building with two later extensions.
The grounds of Barton Hill House have been designated as an Important Open or Wooded Area (IOWA). The grounds are also approximately 50 metres east of a conservation area.
In order to increase boarding capacity and improve existing facilities, a new, part two storey, part single storey, accommodation block has been provided. This comprises 25 study bedrooms with en suite shower and toilet facilities, student common room, kitchen and storage areas together with residential accommodation for the Director of Boarding.
There is also an extension to the car park and associated landscape works.
The project commenced on site in October 2009 and was completed in November 2010.
