Subscriptions and Pay As You Use charges: Special Schools
This page contains details of the core, customised and PAYU services for Special Schools. The prices given for each element of the service will apply from 1 April 2009 to 31 March 2010.
Core packages
Schools with 150 pupils or under
- 300 long-term hire books - £1.36 per book
- An annual mobile library visit (at least 2 hours) plus unlimited exchange of hired books via a collection and delivery service throughout the year - £181 annual charge
- 15 topic loans - £64 per collection
- Help and advice, including at least 3 hours work in school - £130 annual charge
- Access to the book purchase scheme - free of charge
Price £1679
Schools with more than 150 pupils
The same as for schools with 150 pupils and under except that the number of long-term hire books and topic loans are based on pupil numbers as follows:
- 2 long-term hire books per pupil
- 1 topic loan per 30 pupils per term
For example: a school with 210 pupils would have 420 long term hire books and 21 topic loans per annum.
The price for the package is calculated using the above prices.
Customised packages
Schools that want to have either a reduced range of services or a reduced volume of loans, can create a customised package to suit their needs and budget.
Each element of the service is priced as follows:
- Long-term hire books - £1.49 per book
- Unlimited exchange and delivery of long-term hire books - £115 annual charge
- Mobile library visit plus unlimited exchange and delivery of long-term hire books - £200 annual charge
- Topic loan - £71
- Advisory service - £145 annual charge
Pay as you use
Non-subscribers can access topic loans and the advisory service on a "one-off" basis at the above prices.
Mobile library visits are also available on a PAYU basis
The book purchase scheme, offering 25% discount on most recommended prices, is also available to non-subscribing schools but an admin. and delivery charge is made.
Training courses for teachers, librarians and volunteer library helpers, suitable for Special Schools, are usually included in the annual training programme and can be added to any of the above packages or booked on a PAYU basis.
Long-term library projects such as designing a new library or cataloguing a back-log of books can be undertaken by School Library Service staff for a negotiated fee.
