Businesses

Discover how you can save energy and reduce your carbon footprint in your business by following this pratical advice for business (opens in a new window)  , please see the following tips on how else you can help:

  • Carry out a Waste Audit to see what cost savings you can make on energy and waste (contact  Envirowise (opens in a new window) for more information or see if they can visit your business)

  • Encourage your staff  to minimise and recycle as much of their waste as possible

  • Old mobile phones and empty cartridges can be recycled for free

  • Save energy by switching off PC's and monitors, particularly when staff are away from their desks for long periods and during evenings and weekends (a lot of energy is wasted by leaving your computer on standby)

  • By switching off your PC and monitor you could be cutting down on running costs from £60 to just £15 per year  (your screensaver does not save energy, in fact some screensavers use more energy)

  • Turn lights off when leaving the room.  (It is a myth that turning fluorescent lights on and off uses more energy than leaving them on)

  • Encourage staff to be responsible, nominate someone to check that everything is switched off when leaving at night

  • Turn down the radiator rather than open the window

  • Where possible, reduce the amount of waste produced in the first place

  • Print/copy on double sided paper.  Do you need to be printing?

  • Re-use paper for notes
