4. Are you a tenant needing advice?
We work closely with tenants to provide advice on housing standards, tenancy issues and general enquiries in relation to accommodation. Whether you are a Housing Association tenant or a tenant of a private landlord we offer a range of support services to help you.
- Advice for tenants - damp, mould and disrepair to rented homes
If your home is in disrepair, unsafe or cold, we can provide you with support and advice.
- Enforcement policy - enforcement of standards in housing
Our aim is to raise housing standards in Dorset working with owners, landlords, letting agents and tenants.
- Financial advice
If you have financial or debt problems there are a number of organisations that can provide you with advice and assistance in relation to:
- Illegal eviction or harassment
Landlords usually have to follow special legal procedures in order to evict a tenant. If they do not they are carrying out an illegal eviction.
- Tenancy deposit protection schemes
If you have moved into a private rented property (on or after 6 April 2007) and gave your landlord or letting agent a deposit towards the property, they are required to place this money in a Tenancy Deposit Protection Scheme.
- Types of tenancies and licenses
There are many different types of tenancies, the most common being assured and assured shorthold tenancies.
- Tenancies, rights and responsibilities
If you are a tenant, you should have a legal tenancy or licence agreement with your landlord.
- Council contact details
