Accommodation services for applicants with mental health, disabilities

There are a range of supported housing schemes across Dorset which aim to meet the different needs of vulnerable people.

Dorset County Council directly provides/manages a number of residential care homes for older people and people with a learning disability. They also have contracts with a large number of independent sector residential homes to provide for people with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, and mental illness or with drug and alcohol problems. Many of these homes are within Dorset but some are in other authorities to allow people choice in where they receive their care. For example, if they need to live near their family or where specialist care is provided. Each home seeks to provide for the individual needs and abilities of the people who live there, as well as their different interests. They are all required to meet national standards of care and accommodation. The following factsheets Care Home Provision for Adults and Paying for Services in a Care Home can be accessed from Request community care (Adult Social Services) factsheets under the heading Residential and Day Care Services.

We work in partnership with organisations who fund support workers to assist vulnerable people.  This help can range from assistance in finding housing to assistance in maintaining a tenancy and managing finances.

If you would like further advice or information regarding these issues please contact your local housing team.

If you have a disability we can also help you with advice on adaptations to help you improve your home. Please contact your local private housing team.
