Do you need a grant or loan to adapt or improve your home?

home improvement

Councils in Dorset offer a variety of grants and loans that may assist homeowners, landlords and tenants to improve, adapt or repair their homes.

These can include help to improve the energy efficiency of your home, carry out emergency repairs, small repairs or more comprehensive repairs or improvements. If you are disabled and need help to get into or around your home a range of assistance is available.

If you want help to arrange the repair, improvement, maintenance or adaptation of your home or help to apply for grants we support local Home Improvement Agencies (HIAs) across Dorset that specialise in providing this help to the over 50s or the disabled.

  • Grants and Loans

Homes that are in serious disrepair or require major adaptations can have an impact on your health and welfare. However, often the disrepair or adaptation can be of a minor nature but still be essential.

  • The Dorset Home Service

The Dorset Home Service provides free advice and practical support to help older and disabled homeowners and tenants to stay safe, secure, warm and independent in their homes.

  • How can I make my home warmer and more energy efficient?

Help is available to all residents in Dorset to make their homes as energy efficient as possible. This can range from practical, independent advice, to financial assistance in the form of grants or loans. An energy efficient home is a warmer home that is also cheaper to heat.
