Do The Positive Thing - Recycle Your Batteries
Christchurch residents can now recycle batteries in their kerbside recycling box.
To help make it easier for you to recycle batteries, residents will now be provided with a battery recycling bag. Used and unwanted batteries should be placed in the bag to be recycled.
How do I recycle batteries in my kerbside recycling box?
All households should have received a reusable battery recycling bag with their 2011 recycling date cards. If you did not receive a battery bag then you can collect one free of charge from from the Civic Offices or Christchurch Information Centre. Once you have a battery bag all you need to do is fill your bag with any used or unwanted batteries, and then place on top of your recycling box on your recycling collection day.
What batteries can I recycle?
We will collect all household batteries. This includes AAA and AA, button batteries, size C and D and any laptop or mobile phone batteries.
Lead acid car batteries will not be collected and should still be taken to one of the county councils household waste recycling centres. Information on how to find your nearest household recycling centre is available.
Why should I recycle batteries?
The average household uses 21 batteries a year. This means in Christchurch we throw away 480,00 batteries or over 11 tonnes worth every year. By participating in this new recycling scheme, you can make a positive difference and help reduce the amount of battery waste being disposed of in landfill sites.
