Guidance on submitting a local land charges search or requesting inspection of the local land charges register.

Submitting a search

In order for your search application to be dealt with promptly you should ensure that:

The request is made on the official forms in duplicate
The search address is correct and clearly identified
Included are 2 copies of an up-to-date site plan clearly showing the location of the property to be searched against
The search boundary should be clearly outlined in red
It is accompanied by the correct fee (please refer to the fee table for further information)

Expedited searches

If you have an urgent search which you require to be returned within 3 working days, it may be possible to have your search expedited for an additional fee of £35.00. Please telephone the Local Land Charges section to make further enquiries regarding this service.

Refresher searches

Refresher Searches are available at a cost of £35.00, subject to the following conditions:

Residential properties only
The request is submitted by the same applicant as the original search request
The search area is the same as the original search request
Within 6 months of the original search request
A maximum of 2 refreshers per property

Turnaround time

Our aim is to complete all standard land charges searches within 7 to 10 working days and fast-tract expedited land charge searches within 3 working days.

Cancellation of searches

Please telephone the Local Land Charges section if you wish to cancel a search request as it may be possible to issue a refund for the whole/part amount. Generally if the search request is cancelled on the day of receipt before 10 am then a full refund will be given.

If however, the search request is cancelled before the search is completed then a refund will be given based on work already undertaken by us. If the cancellation is received once the search is completed then no refund will be given.
